Joel Slutzky, Chairman of the Board
Joel Slutzky is Chairman of the Board for Maxxess, a company he Co-founded in 2003. Slutzky previously co-founded and served as Chairman of Odetics Inc. He served on the board of Iteris Inc. and ATL Products, Inc. These companies provided products and systems that employed information technology to control the use of public roadways, secure ingress and egress of public and private facilities, and secure the delivery of digital communications.
Odetics, under Slutzky’s leadership, was voted one of six “most innovative companies” in the United States by the American Electronics Association and was also recognized as one of the best companies in the area of human resource management having been featured in the book “The 100 Best Companies to Work for in America.”
Slutzky holds dual bachelor’s degrees in mechanical and electrical engineering from the University of Illinois and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois.
He served on the Board of the American Electronics Association (now part of TechAmerica), the Orange County Business Council, and the Discovery Science Center. He was the Chairman of the Project Tomorrow Emeritus Board; an organization focused on improving K-12 science/math education, the Orange County Business Council Workforce Task Group, the KOCE PBS station and Future Scientists and Engineers of America. In 2004 Joel founded Butterfly Inc. an initiative that focused on workforce development with an emphasis on literacy, creativity, and critical thinking skills.
Dr. Kevin C. Daly, Board of Directors
Maxxess CEO, Dr. Kevin Daly, brings to the company more than 30 years of technical and management experience providing high technology solutions for system control, data protection and electronic security. During his distinguished career, he has brought several companies from startup through market acceptance and fiscal stability through both the IPO and the M&A processes.
Dr. Daly earned his BSEE at University of Notre Dame and holds multiple degrees including a PhD in engineering from Princeton University. He sits on the board of directors at Iteris, Inc., a publically held U.S. company, and the non-profit Project Tomorrow. In addition he serves on the Dean’s Leadership Council, Bren School for Information and Computer Science at University of California, Irvine.
Dr. Daly is regularly called upon to speak at professional, industry and academic forums including: Networld/Interop [USA], Storage Networking World [USA & ANZ], ComNet [USA], University of California, Irvine’s Merage School of Business and Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences [including the latter’s 2005 Commencement Speech].
Nancy Islas, President
As president of Maxxess, Nancy Islas directs the company’s strategic vision and is responsible for business operations and development around the globe. She is an innovative, visionary with more than 20 years experience in the security industry. Under her leadership, Maxxess has transitioned from a hardware-based manufacturer to a software-based solutions provider delivering powerful security management platforms that effectively integrate disparate security and facility management systems.
She travels extensively as the company’s evangelist, supporting customers, and building strategic relationships worldwide.
Prior to joining Maxxess, Ms. Islas served as VP of Product Development for Gyyr, Inc., where, as master product architect, she oversaw the development of the company’s interoperable security management platforms and established technology-based critical infrastructure to enhance the company’s overall internal operations, product development, manufacturing, and external customer support.
Before Gyyr, Ms. Islas held the position of Director of Technical Services for Hirsch Electronics, Inc., where she oversaw the company’s technical department and was responsible for product Q&A, product management, and global technical support.
Ms. Islas is a highly regarded thought leader, and sought after speaker. She has lectured at industry functions including the ISC IP Institute, providing in-depth IP Convergence education to consultants, professionals, IT, and enterprise organizations.
Lee Copland, Managing Director, EMEA
Lee Copland is Managing Director of Maxxess Systems Europe, Ltd. [MSEL], a wholly owned subsidiary of Maxxess Systems, Inc. Copland is a resourceful, innovative general manager, with a track record of success in building strategic partnerships and leading major infrastructure projects from conception to client handover.
Copland is responsible for directing all Maxxess business in the EMEA region including guiding the company’s overall strategy, sales, marketing and business development, which includes: Fostering partnerships with qualified regional systems integrators, building productive relationships with consultants and end-users, establishing key alliances with manufacturers whose products complement the Maxxess offering, as well as overseeing technical support for the firm’s installations across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Prior to joining Maxxess in 2000, Copland, a 25-year veteran of the security industry, held various sales and management positions within the industry. His academic training includes both electrical and mechanical engineering, In addition, he has professional expertise in information systems and networking, as well as graphical technologies.
Copland is a recognized expert in modern security systems and is regularly called upon to participate in symposia and meetings on the subject, throughout the GCC region.
Alex Ayala, Regional Manager, Southeast/LATAM
In his position as Sales Manager for the Southeastern U.S. and Latin America, Ayala directs marketing and sales in those regions, and oversees the Maxxess partner dealer program where he works closely with consultants and integrators, as well as end users. Additionally, he is charged with further developing the company’s business strategies in Latin America.
Ayala, who has more than 15 years experience in the electronic security sector, joined Maxxess in 2006 and managed operations in various sales regions before taking on his current role for the Southeast and LATAM.
Prior to his tenure at Maxxess, Ayala worked for Access Specialties International, where he directed sales for the eastern coast of the U.S., as well as Central and South America.
Ayala is bilingual in English and Spanish.

Erik Wade, Director - Business Development West US
Erik Wade is a Regional Director for the Western Region at Maxxess Systems. On any given day he helps organizations, like yours, extract the wealth of information from every technology you’ve purchased over the years.
While Erik served in the US Army in the early 1990’s, he learned qualities that have helped him excel both personally and professionally. While his military training has certainly aided his expertise in physical security, his college major of photography has aided his understanding of video, lighting, and capturing the key person or information. His drive and determination led to obtaining countless certifications ranging from Information Technology to all areas of Physical Security, Video and Communications. He’s obtained so many certificates over the last 2 decades that it’s said the stack is used as a landmark by passing helicopters and planes. When he’s not saving the world from boredom and disparate systems, Erik enjoys spending his free time bettering himself and enjoying time with his family.
In 2017 and 2018, Erik was asked to aid during some of the largest investigations due to his expertise and background by different agencies. In 2018 and 2019 Erik was tasked to speak as a guest speaker to hundreds of law enforcement officers and help show them what resources were available to them.
Stephen Purificato, Director - Business Development North East US
Stephen Purificato has spent 25 years in the physical security field as a Sales Rep and Sales Engineer as well as a Project Manager in the Security Integration Industry. After being a dealer for the Maxxess line of security solutions he moved to be the NE Representative for Maxxess Systems a little over a year ago.
